What kind of fertilizer does it take?

Mine has been the SAME size for 1.5-2 yrs. Little to no growth. Should I cut the very top leaves off of the few branches I have? Will that encourage growth? Unfortunately I can’t propagate it yet because I hardly have a plant as it is and to cut a piece of one of the branches off would leave me with half of a tiny plant ☹️

What is the purpose of the calcined clay at the bottom of the pot?

I have been searching for so long on how to ensure my tiny (and one and only) portulacaria afra stem that was generously given to me, was able to survive. thank goodness I didn’t listen to the top and prevalent answers I found on the Internet when researching. The time you took to explain why and how you did what you did and over what period of time and the soil you used, etc. all of those details have insured the survival of my little guy who is now thriving. I most certainly would have planted the stem. Within one day in rooting soil. I I’m quite sure that would have been the opposite of what it needed to root and grow. thank you for your detail and this video!

I use the Miracle Gro potting mix. I bake it at 350 for 10 to 15 minutes to kill the bugs.

it seems the branches i have cut with my finger nails are producing roots. i have cut the cutting in segments and planted the rooting stem face down in the soil ..... gonna see what happens

Hi, it's very informative. I am facing an issue with my plant. When i bought it, its stems were all red but now it's turning green slowly. I tweaked its soil because the soil was so compacted that a stick was not able to go inside the soil. So i reduced the soil and mixed perlite. I don't know what to do next. What should i do? Please help me 🙏 Thank you

Great vid 😁 I’ve got one stem of Crassula lanuginosa to propagate from and seeing mixed advice on whether to propagate from whole stems or individual leaves. It’s a very small leaf variety. What would you recommend?

The problem is those soils that "look like potting mix" because they're loaded with organic material will ROT over the course of several years, causing the roots of many succulents and cacti to themselves rot. The Bonsai Jack might be too dry for someone who doesn't want to water every day or so, but I would make sure that whatever I used was 2/3 inorganic material. If you plan on repotting every year or two then I suppose it doesn't matter and the Black Gold Cactus mix does look nicer.

My bush is in pretty much purely cactus mix, I hadn't watered it in a month, it gets 12 hours of sunlamp (north facing windows and close tall forest), inside temp is 68°F-and the day after I water it, leaves and yellow, wrinkly, mushy, and dropping!

These are slow growing. If you plant them shy of the top of you potting mix you can train them into small Bonsi plants.
